She and Him

I was recently informed that Zooey Deschanel, my girl crush, and M. Ward, one of my favorite guitar players, had been collaborating and had already, in fact, produced an album that was released a few weeks ago.

How did I not know this? It's a match made in indie heaven.

After sampling their new album entitled Volume One (which tacitly promises at least a Volume Two in the future), I have to say that if I were a person of less sound mind I would totally take up the life of a stalker and spend my days following Zooey around.

In truth, I don't think it's as good as it could have been. I like her voice better in some songs, not so much in others. I still think her voice is best suited to low register jazz and swing from the 50s. But, on the whole, the album is such a pure little gem of honest and sincere music making. There's no polish, no overproduction, just her sweet, sweet voice accompanied with perfectly tailored instrumentals.

Tickets for the April 22nd show at the Hiro go on sale at midnight. $20. Please come with me.

And now I shall leave you with pictures of the girl I wish I was born as:

OMG WHY CANT I BE HER.

so not fair.
